Along with her writing work, Jess believes in giving back to the writing community and fostering strong ties with other writers, especially new or emerging writers. Collaborating with other writers and artists brings something special to her creative process, so if you’re ever interested in collaborating on a new project, please reach out!
Jess’ Community Projects
Jess founded The Emerging Writers Reading Series in 2012 and hosted and ran the series until summer 2016. The series is for the professional writer who has not yet published a book. In 2017, Mahak Jain and Marcia Walker revitalized the series and moved it to a more accessible venue.
Jess was one of the co-founders of the High Park Poetry Festival, which ran for two years (2014-2015). Each festival hosted about 20 poets.
More recently, Jess has founded Write Inbetween a meet-up groups and writing circle for writers who do not identify with binary modes of sexuality or gender presentation.
